I wrote a little while ago that I was shopping for a new camera. I’ve had an Olympus D-580 for about three years and it’s been a great point-and-shoot, but I was looking for something with a few more features that would give me more flexibility.
I’ve finally bought a new Canon Powershot S-80, and I’m enjoying it immensely. In fact, you’ve already seen the photos it takes, since I’ve been using it since the post on 32 Colors, back in late March. It’s made it much easier to crop and zoom and otherwise manipulate the images I post to this blog. I’m still working my way through the extremely long owner’s manual, learning about all the many features of the camera. I wouldn’t be surprised to find a chapter later on that explains how the camera can walk the dog and do windows…
For my next technical challenge, I hope to begin posting podcasts within the next month or two. Don’t worry, I’m not about to bore you with verbal ramblings. You can get that from my written posts!
No, what I have in mind is kind of a "nature break". I’d like to record nature sounds like birdsong, water sounds, that kind of thing. If any of you have any technical advice, I’d love to hear it. Feel free to post a comment to this post or e-mail me directly.
On the subject of comments to this blog, I have to apologize for turning off the comment field on a few individual posts for the time being. I’ve received a sudden flood of nasty spam I’m afraid. Hopefully, once the viagra merchants move on to other targets I can turn the comment field back on. In the meantime, if you wish to comment on a post that has comments disabled, email your remarks to me and I can manually post them to the blog.

I love the purple bathroom tiles. It reminds me of the 1920s-era purple & green subway tiles that we had in an apartment in Evanston, IL. When we moved into our current home, the sellers bragged that they ripped out some ugly old tiles and put up wainscoting instead. We almost cried.
